The Shimmer Sparkle Shine Project (SSSP) was founded in 2011 by Ciara Mosquito, in Northglenn, Colorado. Ciara was severely bullied by her peers in Middle School, so eventually when she re-grasped her sense of self-worth, she wanted to help girls avoid the feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt that she had to deal with at their age.
SSSP was initially a side-project that 16-year-old Ciara took on to give back, but she quickly knew that she wanted to help girls on a much larger scale. With the help of some family and friends, Ciara turned the Shimmer Sparkle Shine Project into an official non-profit organization.
When originally founded, SSSP helped girls through one on one mentoring. By 2012 the organization structured itself to accomplish its mission through hosting fun and interactive workshops focused around helping young girls develop their sense of self-worth. Today, the organization continues to host workshops for girls ages 8 to 13 and has grown to host workshops outside of Colorado. By 2017 SSSP had hosted workshops in five different states, and in summer of 2017 relocated their base of operation from Colorado to Utah.
In the summer of 2020, after lots of thought, the Shimmer Sparkle Shine Project closed its doors. With the hope of making a last impact they made their curriculum available on their website for anyone to use as they wish.
